Mamirauá – Pousada Uacari

Hi Luciana,

As per your request, I am providing my feedback about our Mamirauá tour last November. Overall, it was a very interesting and learning experience that provided us with great insight of life in the Amazon jungle and a good opportunity to educate ourselves about its role in the ecosystem.
As for the logistics, I was very satisfied in general with how clean the facilities are and all aspects about accommodation. The food court definitely needs improvement in terms of protection from flies and other pests such as bats. Moving the food court to a separate enclosed, more protected and ventilated area would be a very good idea. On a different topic, our stay was, most unfortunately, made very uncomfortable by a couple of confrontational activists, a socialist extremist French woman and a cheeky anti establishment Australian that brought up political topics every single day to the table. This type of poor behaviour should be somehow moderated by the host so I would recommend providing basic training to defuse heated discussions that may end up hampering the joy of being in the middle of the Amazon forest. In terms of wildlife observation, I think it is better to set expectations straight at the beginning of every tour so guests don’t go back home disappointed. We were not told upfront that, due to the dry season it was going to be very difficult to find sloths, uacaris and other species that make up for most of the fascinating wildlife sights so this caused some frustration as a result. The trip to the “Projeto Boto” facility was one of the best and more enjoyable experiences and it would be nice to see similar approaches for other species in the area. Perhaps the full experience could be enhanced by locating in advance potential hot spots were other creatures might hang out before starting a hike, so the chances of spotting them are bigger. One more recommendation is, for long river trips, it would be nice to add a canopy to the motor boat to avoid overexposure to the strong sunlight.
Last, I had a very good impression of the staff in general, despite the language barriers, because they were eager to share their knowledge and were very warm and polite. I hope this feedback helps you and gives your company ideas on how to improve service that attracts more interest to the Mamirauá reserve experience.

Thanks and happy Holidays,
Camilo.

Anavilhanas Lodge

We are in Itajai and have been having a great cruise on Oceania. Today we talked with a fellow passenger who was v ery envious when we told him about how helpful you were in your advice of how to spend our time in the Amazon. Unfortunately, his trip was not as well planned. Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge was outstanding with a guide who was full of information and education. The Lodge was very comfortable and all the trips on the Negro river were great. They served local dishes that were different from anything we had previously experienced and very tasty. The service was excellent. All in all, we had a memorable trip and are very grateful to you. Jean Pratt and Bob Roth

Juma Lodge

Caro Ricardo,

Att,

Eduardo
