Saint Paul Hotel / Juma Lodge

Hi Ricardo,

First of all, thanks a lot for booking my trip to Manaus / Amazonia, especially for all the tips you gave me while booking it (like suggesting the Juma Lodge hotel base on what I wanted to do and see), my trip wouldn’t be as pleasant without them.

Overall, everything was great. All the transports (airport, St. Paul Hotel, Juma Lodge) occured at the scheduled time, with competent and nice drivers.

The Hotel is quite good, new, great location (in downtown, 2 blocks from the Theater), spacious room, and mostly good value for the price. The hotel’s restaurant offers local dishes: food is good, but a bit pricey. Bute there’re several good and cheaper restaurants near the hotel, specially at lunch.

Tip for reading lovers like me: down the street besides the hotel, there’s a bookstore (Valer) of a local editing company, with a large colletion (some in English) of books from and about the region.

Juma Lodge

Exactly what I was looking for in a jungle hotel! Though deep into the forest and obviously rustic, it’s quite nice and comfortable: well kept, clean, good food, with spacious, private rooms (bungalows). The room’s balcony, with lake’s view, is equipped with an hammock, perfect to relax. The bungalow is also “sealed off” enough from the outside, like with window screens, though mosquitoes were not seen or heard at my time there.

The hotel staff were quite good and warm, especially when I was feeling isolated, being the only Brazilian staying at the hotel during that time. In particular, the tour guide Milton was quite good, with near perfect English.

Tip: Don’t forget the raincoats! I didn’t mind being soaked in rain in a canoe trip, but others might mind…

Best regards,
Walter
