Tropical Hotel / Meeting of the waters / Anavilhanas Lodge

Dear Luciana,

Finally we have returned to Germany after a very interesting holiday.

We have enjoyed very much our stay in the Amazonia, which was nearly perfect, if there wasn`t the last problem with the transfer.

When we checked out at the Tropical Ecoresort on Sept1 at about 2:55 am, we were waiting for our transfer to the airport until about 3:15. Then I checked at the reception if someone called to announce a delay, which was not the case. So we decided to take a Taxi to the Airport. This took another 5 – 10 minutes, so the driver did not arrive until at least 3:25. Of course, we have not been amused and would like to have an explanation and the cost refunded.

Well, now to the more positive side of our trip:
1. The reception, transfer and the city tour on the day of arrival was very enjoyable. The guide was very friendly, cared about our interest and spoke English very well. Very positive start.
2. I have been to the Tropical Hotel about 25 years ago, and I have the impression that the rooms were not changed or refurbished since then. The carpet in the rooms urgently needs to be replaced. The a/c in the rooms can`t be regulated and blow very cold air on high fan into the room, which was not comfortable. However the Hotel building itself, the food, the pool area and the location are really good. The staff was not overwhelmingly friendly, but still o.k., but you have to speak Portuguese to get along.
3. Meeting of the Waters tour was good. A friendly guide who tried to speak English, boat crew was nice, food at the restaurant was good, nothing to complain but as well not the greatest highlight.
4. Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge was superb. The Hotel is located beautifully at the Rio Negro, the nice wooden rooms are simple but clean and beautiful. The food was excellent. The tours were well organized, the guides friendly and knowing. There have really been no mosquitoes. We did not see a lot of wildlife, but the atmosphere in the jungle was worth the visit. Anavilhanas Lodge was without doubt the highlight of the trip. Also our 6 y.o. daughter enjoyed the stay there, and it is not a problem to bring a child along.

You may use these comments wherever you like. Still did not have the time to sort the photos, I will have a look at your blog.

Now I am looking forward to hearing from you soon with a positive answer regarding the transfer.

Kindest regards,
Thomas Klenk
